Atelier 1888 – Artist Residency at Gallery 1888

Atelier 1888 is an artist residency program dedicated to fostering creative exploration, dialogue, and artistic innovation within Toronto’s evolving contemporary art landscape. Designed to support both emerging and established artists, Atelier 1888 provides a space for experimentation—offering time, resources, and a platform to develop ambitious new works that challenge and expand the boundaries of artistic practice.

Rooted in the belief that art thrives through connection, the residency encourages collaboration, interdisciplinary approaches, and meaningful engagement with the public. Each selected artist or collective is invited to transform the gallery space, using it as both a studio and a site for installation, performance, or research-driven work. Whether through immersive installations, multimedia projects, or participatory experiences, Atelier 1888 aims to push beyond traditional exhibition models, inviting audiences to step into the creative process.

As a gallery dedicated to supporting and elevating local talent, Atelier 1888 reinforces our commitment to providing artists with opportunities to cultivate their ideas, share their narratives, and contribute to Toronto’s vibrant cultural dialogue. By bridging the gap between creation and presentation, the residency seeks to amplify voices that shape the contemporary art conversation, while fostering a deeper connection between artist, audience, and city.
